Place
Limerick
An Irish city on the Shannon where Elizabeth Anscombe was born in 1919: she would go on to study under Wittgenstein at Cambridge, translate his late work, and single-handedly help revive Aristotle's ethics of virtue for the twentieth century.
Limerick is on the Shannon estuary, and Anscombe was born there in 1919 while her father was posted with the British army. She converted to Catholicism as a student, learned German in order to read Wittgenstein, and became one of his closest students and then his translator and literary executor. She also objected publicly when Oxford proposed an honorary degree for Truman, on the grounds that he had ordered the deliberate killing of civilians. She was voted down heavily.
