Apology

Tertullian·c. 197 CE·Latin

Bu metin hakkında

A defense of Christianity addressed to Roman provincial governors, arguing that persecuting Christians for the name alone, without evidence of any crime, was a legal absurdity — and that every execution created more converts than it silenced.

We multiply whenever we are mown down by you; the blood of Christians is seed. Crucify us, torture us, condemn us, grind us to dust; your injustice is the proof that we are innocent. Nor does it avail your cruelty, though each is more exquisite than the last, for it is rather an enticement to our sect.
