Jena

Thuringia · Günümüzde Germany

Küçük bir Thüringen üniversite kasabası; Hegel Tinin Fenomenolojisi'ni burada yazdı, Frege ise tüm kariyerini modern mantığı icat ederek, çevre dünya tarafından fark edilmeden bu kasabada geçirdi.

Jena sits in a narrow valley where the Saale winds through the hills of Thuringia, a university town that punched far above its size in the history of ideas. It was here that Hegel wrote the Phenomenology of Spirit in 1806, hearing Napoleon's cannons in the distance. Frege spent his entire academic career here, from 1874 to his retirement, teaching in obscurity while inventing the logic that would restructure mathematics and philosophy. Schiller had lived here. Goethe passed through. In the first decade of the nineteenth century, Jena was briefly the intellectual capital of the German-speaking world.
